The loom
Six months, one saree
A Kadhwa saree is woven motif by motif. The weaver cuts and reties the thread for every single buti. It is slower than any other method on the loom, and it is why the design sits on the cloth instead of floating behind it.

Sona-rupa
Silver thread, gilded in gold, wound onto silk. Real zari tarnishes slowly and warms with age. Tested zari does not.
Katan silk
The classic Banarasi weight. Pure mulberry silk, woven on a pit loom.

Woven on a loom, by hand
A Banarasi takes months on the loom. The zari is worked in by hand, and the border and body are woven separately then joined at the kadiyal, so the seam is part of the cloth rather than sewn onto it. Two sarees from the same design never come out quite the same.
All of ours are woven in Varanasi.

Before you order
Every saree includes an unstitched blouse piece of ‹0.8›m in matching fabric. Stitching is not included.
Dry clean only. Store folded in a cotton or muslin cloth, never plastic, and refold along different lines every few months so the zari does not crack.
We shoot in daylight without filters. Screens vary, so a small difference in shade is possible.
3 to 7 working days across India. You get a tracking link when it ships.
Meenakari
Colour that is woven, not printed
Coloured silk laid in beside the zari while the saree is still on the loom. It cannot be added afterwards, which is why a meenakari border holds its colour as long as the cloth does.
